smartphone apps, apps

With 2018 one week down already, how many of us are sticking to our new year resolutions?

Speaking of resolutions, gone are the days when we would list down our resolutions in diaries and have them measured after a certain period of time.  As of today, thanks to our smartphones and tablets we have the option of listing them down on our phone memos or other note writing apps like ‘Evernote’ & ‘Simplenote.’

In present era not only can we list our resolutions/goals on our phones, but also tap into the apps on our smartphones in order to accomplish & measure our resolutions for the year.

Below are some of the apps that can help us reach our respective goals.

  1. Plan on getting fit? Try ‘MyFitnessPal’, a smartphone app and website that tracks diet and excercise to determine optimal caloric intake and nutrients for the users’ goals. You can either scan the barcodes of various food items or manually add them in the database of over five million different foods. It works in conjunction with over 50 devices and apps; Fitbit and Garmin wearable devices users can synchronize their health data to third-party devices for easier mobility. (Available on IOS & Google playstore).
  2. Want to quit Smoking? Try ‘Livestrong Myquit Coach.’  This app acts as a virtual coach to develop your personalized plan for quitting. You can track your smoking consumption and nicotine cravings. When times get tough, you can set reminders, goals, and even personal motivations to keep going. You’ll also earn achievement badges as a reward for your progress and can communicate with other users via the app’s built-in social support circle. (Available on IOS & Google playstore).
  3. Plan on learning a new language? Try ‘Duolingo.’ This app begins by using text, pictures, and audio to help you learn a different language. The idea is to associate the sound of the translation with the visuals of the text and pictures, and then have you manually translate the audio back into your native language to help reinforce the new words. Every section you complete moves you forward to more difficult tasks, to build on your vocabulary and sentence structure. You have the option of testing out of several sections at once if you’re familiar with the language, and Duolingo will adapt the questions based on how well you do. (Available on IOS & Google playstore).
  4. Explore new exotic locations? ‘Skyscanner’ has got you covered. The app searches for the most affordable and best options via its travel partners. If you’re not sure where exactly you want to go, Skyscanner offers a category that lets you explore ‘top deals’ from your nearest airport, as well as a curated list of destinations at affordable prices. (Available on IOS & Google playstore).
  5. Looking to acquire sound mental skills? Get ‘Lumosity.’ This popular app is split into sessions of three games tailored to your goals: memory, attention, problem solving, processing speed or flexibility of thinking. The games are played against the clock and change every time. (Available on IOS & Google playstore).
